Chalfonte House
Located in beautiful Elk Rapids, Michigan, two blocks from East Grand Traverse Bay, Chalfonte House is integral to the mission and activities of the Chalfonte Foundation. Although not an exclusive entity of the Foundation, Chalfonte House provides a safe, healthy, recreational, spiritual, and healing environment for groups and individuals, usually facilitated personally by Rev. Meyer. For many years, these activities have included:
- Annual August weeks, for both young teens and twenties, boys and girls, who have critical or terminal illnesses. Often their siblings and/or peers are included.
- Annual Moms' Weekend, for mothers whose children have died.
- Annual Dad's weekend, for fathers whose children have died.
- Annual Women's Weekend, for women who have diseases, are widowed due to terminal illness of their former spouse, siblings and support persons of the same.
- Christmas and New Year's Days celebration of life.
- Mom's & Munchkins Spree held over Father's Day Weekend, this gathering
provides an opportunity for bonding and respite especially for single
parents and those whose husbands and fathers are serving overseas in the
wars. Includes children from ages one to eleven.
- GROW (Girls Rule Our World!) Week for young women ages 12 and up needing time for rejuvenation and to hang out with other great young women.
- Artiste Weekend, for pre-adolescent children, especially those whose talents lie in music or culinary arts rather than athletics.
- Winter Games at Chalfonte, held in mid February, provides instruction and experience in skiing and snow boarding for those who otherwise would
have no such opportunities
- Halloween Haunted House activities
- Angels Day to honor and thank the many benefactors and helpful souls who donate their time, money, and energies to the Foundation and its activities
In addition to the annual events listed above, Chalfonte House plays house many weekends throughout the year where anywhere from one to twenty persons gather for respite, psychosocial and spiritual support. Days of Gratitude also occur regularly throughout the year, often with some of the kids present, for sponsors and supporters of Chalfonte House.
